Christmas Songs: Too Early, or Just Right?

Everyone loves those religious carols that play every year before the holidays on every radio channel. But some people don't agree. Some people say that the Christmas songs come to quickly or that they should be after the end of November or at least after Thanksgiving. Some say that the songs come at  just the right time. A very recent poll says most people say they come way too early; what would you say?

Most people would love to listen to the jolly holiday carols but they come way too early! The songs are coming on the radio right before Thanksgiving! The songs are meant for Christmas so they should be nearer to Christmas. They are called the 25 days of Christmas, not the 30 days of Christmas! And they certainly are not part of Thanksgiving, so they shouldn't put them on the radio the day before Thanksgiving, or the day right after! They should wait until the next month comes! "They are WAY TOO EARLY!" says local 36 year old worker and mother Mariana Arias, "They don't even let Thanksgiving end before they play them!". Many people think the same but some think differently.

The merciful tunes that play on the radio are favored by a big group of American Christians. The songs on the radio play again and again and some people love that. The songs played have come too early for some but for others it comes just right. "They come just right." says Parthi Dasdondi, an 11 year old school girl from the Herbert Hoover middle school, "I think so because they play in the middle of November and December, as they should. They also get you into the Christmas feel". She and others think that the Christmas songs should come sooner than after December.

The debate has included any person who wants to. I find this argument very interesting, and many think so also.

Letter to Santa

I know how busy you are in these upcoming holidays, but I was wondering if you could spare a few minutes to read this letter. I am fully aware that you are busy tending to the toys that the good children get, and was wondering if you could give me a special item I have been longing for. I have been wanting to get an iPad for myself. And as a foolish way to show I am a good child, my mother would also love one. She is hardworking and is the best mother anyone could ask for.
I know that the iPad is a personal item, and that I would probably be very selfish with it, as I am now with the iPod. I am also fully aware that it would not be a help to any others but me. I would just like this for me, and afterwards I can give my iPod to one of my cousins.
I am asking for this for no special reason, as I would just love to have one. I know that I haven’t been the best of children, I know my grades are poor, and I know that I might as well get a lump of coal, but I’ve been trying. Even if you can’t get one for me, I would be very happy if you got my mother one. But, even though, I would be ecstatic if you would be so kind as to present one to me as well.
So, as to not bother you any further, I will end this letter. I am very grateful of you for reading this, and I wish you a very merry Christmas!

Yours truly,
Liliana Garcia

Holiday Customs

Many people celebrate Christmas and in many different ways. The general way to celebrate Christmas is to set up a tree and stockings for presents. But that's not all to it. The other details are what are interesting! Yo are probably used to the traditional opening of presents and eating a great feast, like I am, but some people do something different someplace else! Its amazing to know about what other people do for Christmas, like we do now! What they do every year on the 25 of December could be so unusual and different to us! Like what we call Santa. What we are used to is Santa Claus or Kris Kringle, but did you know that his name is Papai Noel in Brazil? Or that he is called Shengdan Laoren in China? In Chile they call him Viejo Pascuero and in Dutch his name is Sinter Klaas! In England Father Christmas and in Europe Saint Nicholas. There are a lot more out there but then that would probably take up the entire page! So you see, there are alot more customs to celebrating Christmas than what we are used to, and a lot more names for Santa than we would believe!
                                                                  Merry Christmas

Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving is a holiday where we share thanks, and show what we are thankful for. A popular tradition for this holiday is to roast turkey. This tradition was carried on from the time of the first feast by the Pilgrims and Native Americans.  They had a feast in thanks of their first full harvest in this new land.  The Pilgrims invited the Native Americans, who helped them in the harsh winter.  The turkey has been a tradition for a few reasons.  One reason is that it was served as the main dish for the Pilgrims first harvesting feast. Another reason could be that Benjamin Franklin called the turkey a 'respectable' bird. The last reason is that geese were very popular dishes in England, but there were not many in the New World, so they settled for turkey. These are some possible  reasons to why we eat turkey on Thanksgiving, but none are certain.

                                              Happy Thanksgiving Day!!!

Gratitude

I am grateful for my family and my friends. I am also thankful for the other things in my life. I am thankful for my electronics that I use everyday. I am grateful for my doctor and  my mother’s doctor, for helping us stay healthy. Lastly, I am grateful for my life, my freedom, my pride, my mistakes, and the love I receive each day.

Halloween!!!!!! ^_^

This Halloween, I was going to be a girl version of (yes, now you know its a guy) THE MAD HATTER!!!!! Yes, I was going to be the crazy, mad, awesome, creative... well you get the point. I was going to be the mad mad hatter. Now, I know you might be thinking, 'What in the world?????' well I just like the thought of being aloud to be crazy for one day.  I went shopping for this costume, but couldn't find it.  Instead I am going to be Athena, the Greek God of Wisdom. It is really fun and exciting that we get to be another person for a day, and how we get FREE CANDY just by asking people we barely (or don't) know. What kind of person would invent such a wonderful holiday???   Ye that's right, someone as mad as A GODDESS!!! TriCK Or TReAt.    o_0

Previously Deleted blogs

I made a mistake and deleted the blog posts.  My mom was able to get them back...

Reflecting on Ralph Fletcher
In Marshfield Dreams: When I Was a Kid by Ralph Fletcher, I got to experience new types of writing, as the author tells us about  his childhood. He is an excellent writer and his vignettes are superb.

In one vignette, Bobby, he writes "I tried to sneak past, but Bobby saw me and made a and made a loud sound, extending his little arms straight up into the air like, touchdown!  Which meant 'pick me up!' I'm a sucker for that move. No possible way I could ignore it."(Fletcher 2005 p.60). Here he really gets into how much he loved his brother. This excerpt reminded me of how much I used to love my god father who died also. It wasn't the same love as Ralph Fletcher had for his brother, but it was probably the same sadness.

In another, Last Kiss, he writes "My father and I had drifted away from each other in a small, but important way, a way that I couldn't explain, not even to myself."(Fletcher 2005, p.84) This one caught me, because this is the part of life where 'mommy' and 'daddy' are now mother and father. That's what you would call 'growing up by accident'.  I felt really bad for Ralph, because he felt what it was like to lose part of someone's love for you. in this case, his father's kisses. Like him, I don't get kisses every night, because now he lives in a house in Florida. I really miss him, but I still have 'mommy'.

This was a very interesting lesson, as now I know new ways to write!

My Kitty Cat
When I was younger, I was introduced to my mother's beanie baby collection which she got when she was about 21 years old.  I especially liked a brown cat with black and white patches whom was named 'Patch'.  I carried the kitten around everywhere and slept with it every night and would cry if I got it taken away or if I would have lost it. I would take it to school, where I would make paper food for Patch.  I would even give her baths while I was bathing, which caused all the shampoo to run out quickly.  I found that many other girls had beanie babies --like mine-- so we formed a club for girls that had beanie's only, and if anyone ever wanted to join, they'd have to show proof of a beanie.

It was really fun actually, pretending that our beanie animals could talk, and there were so many beanies brought into the club!  There were horses, bunnies, cats, dogs ans chickens; all kinds of animals made into these cute little toys you could play with!  It actually occurred to the boys that they would take animals and squish them into the beanie's that they were.  It was crazy, but we were only three year olds.

School
Today was particularly fun because we got to skip 1st English, and go with our guidance counselor for a little activity to get to know her more.

Hi Guys!
hey guys this is Lili here! I'm just posting this to test it!!!! so peace people ;D

Does patriotism still matter?

Yes, patriotism still does matter.  Of course it does, who wouldn’t think that?  We should all respect the patriots, even if you don’t know any soldiers, it still matters. It may seem like they aren’t that important to your life, but they are.  They are the ones who give us freedoms, and who keep us safe.  They might not be able to help everyone at one time, but they sacrifice their LIVES for us. They risk it all to help complete strangers they don’t know an inch. It’s crazy that they do this, I know, but they do it so they can feel proud of themselves, or to protect family near a war going on.
It would be terrible if we didn’t have the soldiers who died for us, then we would be slaves, living under another person just so we could stay alive as much as they let us.  We shouldn’t live our lives not knowing what the soldiers are even doing.  It’s weird because they can do what we citizens do: work, play, eat and sleep.  Even if they have that chance to live their life the way we have it planned, they don’t.  They take that extra step, and take their chances so they can be different and to be respected.
The thing is that we are the reason they do.  WE are the reason they do what they do.  WE are what their motivation comes from, and we can’t just ignore that.  THEY are the reason we have freedom. THEY are our rescuers, and it DOES matter. We should be thinking about them all the time, day, night holiday, weekend, all of the time.  Whenever you see the stars and stripes, you should bow your head and give thanks to the soldiers who are fighting in this never-ending war of the people.
