School Uniforms

Dear Superintendent O'Malley,

"Conform and be dull," is a famous quote form J. Frank Doble. The subject of argument is whether we should issue a system of uniform or not. Having the children wear uniforms is not a good idea.Uniforms cost too much money for the parents and prevent children from expressing themselves. They may also be uncomfortable.
Uniforms are not a good thing to have in school because they are very expensive. They are because parents have to buy the uniforms and outside clothes. The parents also have to do laundry more often. When parents buy the uniform, they must buy those and outside clothes, as uniforms are only for school, and are not appropriate casual attire. If children have the uniform they have to do more laundry than usual because you only have two or three pairs rather than have 15 to 16 pairs of clothes where parents can wash a lot in a short amount of time. The parents may spend less money on name-brand clothes that the children want for school. But, the children may want the expensive clothes for outside of school. If we have uniforms, then the economy will get worse bit by bit because we are spending a lot more money instead of saving money.

If children wear uniforms they can't wear what they want to wear. They won't be able to wear their favorite shirt or their most comfortable pants. Kids will have to dress accordingly following a strict dress code. Uniforms also have kids wearing the exact same thing as everyone else. Uniforms won't let them be unique and different, they will make everyone look the same. The uniform policy prevents kids from teasing others about their clothes being more expensive, but this rarely ever happens because many children wear similar name-brand clothing. Uniforms are not so great because kids cannot exercise their freedom as America's children.

Uniforms not only are expensive and prevent uniqueness, the also may be uncomfortable. Uniforms probably won't be children's top pick for most comfortable clothes in their closet, and they probably won't favor having to wear them everyday until they graduate. The uniform may be itchy where you usually just have a short sleeve on, but the uniform requires a long sleeve. That may not be so comfortable for most children. There is also the problem where the children grow out of their uniforms, but the parent can't afford another uniform. The child would then have to wear the same uniform that is too small for them. The sizes may range from all sizes, but children grow all of the time and the economy right now is not good. If children are uncomfortable in school, that would be a problem.

Uniforms cost a lot of money and prevent children to express themselves and may be uncomfortable. The uniforms are expensive themselves and add onto the casual attire, they keep kids from being unique and different, and they might be uncomfortable for those who are not used to wearing what is necessary for the uniform. They may seem good to parents and teachers, but they are sucking the money right out of your wallet along with your uniqueness and comfort.

Sincerely,

Liliana Garcia
